A stranger from the past… July 9, 2008

I don’t know how many times you look at some strangers, find them interesting and strike a conversation with them. I do, a lot of times but until today never really found any courage to actually talk to them.

I had to go to Churchgate today for some office work so I caught a Churchgate slow local and somewhere at Bandra two girls came in and sat besides me. They were talking about some admissions and after a while I figured out they were law students. Well at that time I was too sleepy and all I did was heard their entire conversation.
While returning back I caught a Borivali fast and I saw one out of those two girls sitting there returning home. I looked at her and smiled, she smiled back. I thought to myself, what a coincidence. It took a while for me to make myself get up and talk to her.
I went there and said “ may I sit here? I met you,… actually saw you few hours back”. She was a little reluctant to talk. After a one sided conversation where I felt I was taking her interview I came to know that her name is Mital, a Marwadi girl living in Borivali with her joint family and trying her luck to get into the Government Law College for her second year.
I had to assure her that I was not some crazy girl by lying to her that I love talking to strangers and do this a lot. I think after a while she got used to the whole idea of a stranger bugging her. So she opened up and asked me few things. I realised after a while that she looked like one my friends and told her that too, she laughed. I remember that quite evidently, she had a very nice smile. The funny thing was that she seemed very predictable I asked her questions and already knew the answers. She called herself boring, said never had a boyfriend and intended to study hard and get married to some guy of her parents choice. It was funny cause I felt I already knew her… but then why would I find her so interesting? I questioned myself and realised that she was ME.. like… 3 or 4 years ago…
She made me wonder for a while that how much I have changed and how simple I was before just like her and now how complex I have become.
My station was nearing so I asked her to write something on my railway ticket…she laughed again and after much of thinking she wrote- “you are very very INTERESTING”. I gifted her a 5 buck ring with ‘friends’ written on it and she gladly accepted.
I waved her my first and hopefully not the last goodbye and left. But every time I read that ticket it makes me realise how like Mital…always thought I was boring and in most weirdest of explanations and reasoning she made me ‘interesting’. I m sure she will remember me like how I would…as a ‘stranger from the past’.

My first official date… with a friend July 7, 2008

Well I don’t even remember how it all started n how we decided that we ll go on a date… till Saturday it was still a joke but my friend did call and fixed and arranged everything… it was weird but still exciting… I wasn’t expecting anything but did dress up n tiptoed myself for the so-called ‘DATE’ with a friend.

He picked me up exactly at 3.45 this Sunday afternoon and there he was with his blazer on n ready to wow me with the unexpected evening coming ahead. First I got this amazing gift from him- a turtle candle stand… I thought how thoughtful…(ppl who don’t know me I have a turtle who i absolutely luv)… he had booked two shows of Jane tu.. One at 4.30 n other at 6.30 just cause he couldn’t contact me n didn’t know what will be suitable for me… I thought how sweet… he even tried going to the car rental, which did not work out… I thought well he did think a lot about the date than me… we saw the movie n it was still weird… in interval we sat outside having popcorn n started talking n got so engrossed in it that forgot abt the movie completely now tht was really cute… we rushed inside n phew… did not miss the movie thanx PVR. After the movie we headed out to have dinner didn’t know where to go n finally settled down for a place near bandstand in bandra which was suppose to be good… there was crazy amt traffic but it was ok for me cause I cud talk to him our actually he cud talk to me… we reached that place n it turned out to be something else so we took a U-turn n head back to red box…

Till this time I had relaxed a bit n it has sunk in to me that I was on an actual date.. food was gr8 but the place was noisy n the waiters were deaf but had a gr8 company.. when the main course came we tried doing something cliché and feed each other the hooot pasta which burned our mouths but ended up laughing about it … a lot…. well that might not sound funny but it was…

When we left in the rickshaw we were a lot comfortable …at one point he stretched his arms when I thought he wanted to hold me which turned out to be a little embarrassing for him and me too… but in the end we were holding hands n laughing n throwing water at each other… I thought how kiddish but what the heck was having fun… the night ended with a hug n a thankyou kiss…

For all who thought after reading this that was meant to be something else are wrong… it was a date with friend who kept his promise to take me on a date even though it was a joke but he kept his promise well by making it one of the most amazing, unforgetful and as innocent a date could be cause none of us came with an ajanda on our minds, all we wanted to do is have fun and that’s what we did…

P.S. Thanx to my friend for making the day so special…
